abdominal or digestive symptoms after gallbladder removal. Doctors sometimes use the term postcholecystectomy syndrome to describe this group of symptoms.
Possible complaints include:
upper abdominal pain
indigestion
bloating
nausea
diarrhea
heartburn-like symptoms
intolerance of certain foods
Importantly, this is not necessarily a single disease.
Symptoms may result from several different causes, including digestive changes, bile duct problems, previously undiagnosed gastrointestinal conditions, or occasionally stones remaining in the bile ducts.
Persistent pain after surgery should therefore be evaluated instead of automatically being attributed to the missing gallbladder.
